G01-02 Tank Installation.
Attached the G02-10 Gas Tank Straps to the longerons using the AN3-5A bolts called out in the plans. I torqued them to 25 in/lbs. I put the gas tank in the fuselage to check the fit of the tank straps. I will need to work with them to get them fastened.

G01-07R & -07L Gascolator Mount Brackets.
I was going to start on the engine mount install. But the plans call for using .06 shims. So I looked in the materials list to see where the .063 sheet material was used. I found that the only thing left was the gascolator mount brackets. So I decided to make these brackets prior to making shims for the engine mount.

I used the band saw to cut the rough shape of the brackets. I then match drilled the 4 rivet pilot holes using the drill press. I clecoed the two parts together. I drilled the 9/16th holes using a step bit on the drill press. With the two parts still clecoed together I used the scotch brite wheel to make to two parts the same shape and polished the edges. I used the brake to bend the 90 degree angles.

I then got out the gascolator the I got from Wicks as part of the Fuselage Hardware Kit that I purchased when I bought my kit almost three years ago. I found that the gascolator is a Usher gascloator which is not what is detailed in the plans. The brackets will not work with the Usher gascolator. I looked at the hardware list from Sonex and it calls for the Usher gascolator. But the plans show a gascolator that looks like the Homebuilder Gascolator sold by Aircraft Spruce. Bummer! I need to check with Kerry to find out what is going on.

(10/31/2013 I got an email back from Kerry. There are pictures in the Aerovee manuel that show the Usher gascolator installed.)

G01 Fuel System Installation.
Panel.
I check behind the panel for any clearance problems. I removed the panel and cross piece from the fuselage.
Fuel Tank.
I increased the filler opening to where the stopper will fit properly. I checked to make sure that the filler stopper/cap will be lower than the access door. I cleaned out all the treaded fittings in the tank.

Fuel Tank.
I used some mineral spirits to rinse out the tank. I then took the tank home where I used the garden hose to fill the tank with water. I ran a lot of water through to rinse out any left over plastic dust and pieces. I filled and drained the tank twice. I put the tank in the hot garage where it would dry over the next two days.

G01 Fuel System Installation.
Fuel Tank.
I installed the fittings using Teflon paste. For the fittings going into the tank I only tightened them as tight as I could with only my fingers. If they leak I will try tightening them a little tighter with a wrench. For the fittings around the shut off valve I used a wrench to tighten them. I then only used my fingers to tighten the strainer into the tank.
Tank Installation.
I put the tank into the fuselage. I connected the tank straps with bolts to hold the tank in place.
Fuel Line.
I used a coat hanger to get a rough measurement and shape of the fuel line. I shaped and cut the tubing for the fuel line. I flared the ends of the fuel line. I attached the fuel line to the shut off valve and the 90 degree elbow at the gascolator.

Made another fuel tank vent line. The 1st one had a rather sharp bend that I did not like.
The new one has nice gentle bends. Should be better.
Painted the inside back side of the firewall that is above the glare shield.
Riveted the panel and sub panels in place.
