T01 Tail Installation.
I first finished putting together with clecos the Van's Vents.
Horizontal Stabilizer.
I started the installation. I cut a piece of word to the 160 degree angle to check the up elevator travel. I worked at trimming the skin edges to obtain the proper fit and location.

T01 Tail Installation.
T01-04 Horizontal Stabilizer Installation.
I filled the elevator horn stop to get the required 160 degree angle for the up travel. I clamped the horizontal Stabilizer to the fuselage location. I drilled the four 1/4 in holes. I had to notch out part of the top skin to get to the aft two holes.

T01-04 Horizontal Stabilizer Installation.
I removed the horizontal stabilizer. I deburred the four bolt holes on both the fuselage and the stabilizer. I deburred all the skin edges. I put the horizontal stabilizer back on the fuselage. I installed and torqued the four bolts.
Vertical Stabilizer.
I trimmed the skins on the vertical stabilizer and fuselage to get a proper fit. I put the bolts in the rear vertical spar to test the fit. I also put the rudder on to check for alignment.

T01 Tail Installation.
Vertical Stabilizer.
I trimmed the elevator drive horn and vertical stabilizer skins to allow the elevator to move its full up travel. There was a gap between the elevator drive horn and the place for the elevator down stop. So I added a shim so that the drive horn would squarely stop for the elevator down travel. I put the bolts in the vertical stabilizer aft spar and fuselage.

T01 Tail Installation.
Vertical Stabilizer.
I drilled the three holes for attaching the forward part of the vertical stabilizer. I removed the vertical stabilizer from the fuselage. I attached the three nut plates. I put the vertical stabilizer back in the fuselage. I installed all the bolts as called out in the plans including the three forward bolts. I put the elevator control rod in place to check for interference. I filed and polished two locations so that the elevator will achieve it full travel.

T01 Tail Installation.
Elevator Control Rod.
Finished fitting the elevator control push rod and elevator drive horn.

Vertical Stabilizer and Rudder.
Attached the Rudder to the Vertical Stabilizer with the hinge pin to locate the placement of the hinge to the Fuselage. Drilled and up drilled the holes for the half hinge that attaches to the fuselage. Deburred and riveted the half hinge. Found that the left rudder stop plate was not thick enough. Drilled out the rivets. Made a shim out of .06 sheet stock. Match drilled the holes. Riveted the rudder stop back in its location with the shim. Used counter sunk rivets for the last two rivets. Filed and polished the left rudder horn to fit properly on the left rudder stop.

T01 Tail Installation.
Rudder.
I finished trimming the rudder stops. The rudder now travels 25 degrees in each direction. I made cardboard cut outs to measure the proper degrees from the left side of the vertical stabilizer.
Fairings.
I started the fairings. I cut out the rough shape.

Today I finished fabricating and installing the tail fairings.
First Flight of a Onex.
Today I was able to witness the first flight of a Onex.
